Las Vegas Events & Sports

Vegas runs on big nights. Race weekends that turn the Strip into a circuit, championship rodeo in December, NFL Sundays under a dome, and a New Year's Eve where the resort rooftops light up at once. Here's what's on, and when to come for it.

Vintage postcard of fireworks over the neon Las Vegas Strip

Las Vegas has always been an events town, but the last few years turned it into a genuine sports and spectacle capital. In a single stretch you can catch a Formula 1 night race down the Strip, an NFL game under the silver dome of Allegiant Stadium, the Golden Knights on the ice, and the world's best cowboys at the National Finals Rodeo. Pile residencies, festivals and the biggest New Year's Eve party in the country on top, and the only hard part is timing your trip.

This page is the planning layer for the calendar: who plays where, which weekends are worth flying in for, and which ones to dodge if you want a quieter, cheaper room. If you're chasing the stage instead of the field, our Shows & Entertainment guide covers residencies, Cirque productions and headliners; for the wider picture see Things to Do and our Best Time to Visit rundown.

The weekends that define the year

Plan around these and book early. Each one reshapes the whole city, room rates included.

MOTORSPORT · MID-NOVEMBER

Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix

The headline act of the year. F1 cars scream down a street circuit built right along the Strip in a late-night race, with the 2026 running set for November 19–21. The contract now runs through 2037, so this is a fixture. Rooms and grandstand seats sell out months out and prices spike across the whole city that weekend, so commit early or visit another time.

RODEO · EARLY DECEMBER

National Finals Rodeo (NFR)

Ten nights of championship rodeo at the Thomas & Mack Center, with the 2026 edition running December 3–12. It's the Super Bowl of pro rodeo, and the whole town leans into it: cowboy hats on the casino floor, country headliners, and Cowboy Christmas trade shows. Verify exact performance times when you book, but expect early-evening starts.

FESTIVAL · MID-MAY

EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival)

One of the biggest dance-music festivals on earth, held overnight at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in mid-May (May 15–17 in 2026). The party spills onto the Strip all week long with pool takeovers and club shows. Confirm the current dates and lineup before you plan around it, since festival weekends move year to year.

NEW YEAR · DECEMBER 31

New Year's Eve on the Strip

Branded “America's Party,” this is one of the largest NYE celebrations in the country, drawing hundreds of thousands to the Boulevard. At midnight, fireworks launch from rooftops of around ten Strip resorts at once, with a drone show now part of the mix and a separate display downtown on Fremont Street. The Strip closes to cars; plan to walk and expect a packed, pricey night.

Catch a home game

Vegas went from no major-league teams to a genuine sports city in barely a decade. Here's who plays, and where.

LVNV
NFL · ALLEGIANT STADIUM

Las Vegas Raiders

Sundays (and the odd primetime night) in fall and early winter at Allegiant Stadium, the striking black dome just west of the Strip. Even non-football fans tour it; on game days the tailgate scene and the indoor roar are worth the ticket. The same venue hosts the Las Vegas Bowl and big stadium concerts, so check what's on.

NHL · T-MOBILE ARENA

Vegas Golden Knights

The team that put Vegas on the major-league map, and a former Stanley Cup champion. The Knights play at T-Mobile Arena, tucked behind New York-New York, from October into spring. The pre-game show is pure Vegas theater. Tickets move fast for marquee opponents, so plan ahead.

WNBA · SUMMER SEASON

Las Vegas Aces

The Aces are one of the WNBA's powerhouse franchises, and their summer season is a great-value, high-energy night out when the desert heat keeps you indoors anyway. Confirm the current home arena and schedule when you go, as their venue and dates shift with the season.

MLB · COMING SOON

Athletics baseball

The Athletics are relocating to Las Vegas, with a new domed Strip stadium under construction and a target opening before the 2028 season. Until it's open, the team isn't playing home games in town, so treat this as one to watch rather than book. Check the latest before planning a baseball trip.

On the way
Timing tip: The Strip's busiest, priciest weekends cluster around the F1 Grand Prix (mid-November), the NFR (early December), New Year's Eve, EDC (mid-May) and big fight or convention dates. If you want the events energy, book rooms and tickets months out. If you want a calmer, cheaper trip, aim for a weekday outside those windows.
Seasonal & year-round

Pool season, stages & the Sphere

Beyond the marquee dates, the calendar has a rhythm of its own.

LVNV
DAYCLUBS · APRIL–OCTOBER

Pool & dayclub season

When the desert heats up, the party moves to the water. Dayclubs at the big resorts run roughly April through October, peaking from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with DJ headliners, cabanas and daybeds. Most are 21+ with a cover, and the busiest weekends (holidays and EDC week) sell out and cost more. Book daybeds ahead in summer.

The Sphere

The glowing orb that opened in 2023 is now a fixture of the skyline, hosting immersive films and rotating concert residencies inside its wraparound screen. The lineup changes constantly, so check what's playing for your dates rather than assuming a particular act or show is on.

STAGES · YEAR-ROUND

Residencies & arena shows

On any given week, big-name residencies, Cirque du Soleil productions and touring concerts fill the theaters and arenas. Because acts open, close and switch venues often, treat the current lineup as a moving target. Our Shows guide is the place to see what's playing while you're in town.

A perfect event weekend

How we'd build a trip around a big game or race, without burning out.

  1. Lock the headline event first — a Raiders or Golden Knights ticket, or a Grand Prix grandstand — then build the trip around it.
  2. Book a room within walking distance of the venue or a monorail stop; on big nights the Strip gridlocks, so see Where to Stay before you pick.
  3. Spend the afternoon at a pool party (in season) or browsing the casinos, then eat early to beat the rush.
  4. Catch the game, race or rodeo, then ride the energy into a late show or club set afterward.
  5. Bank a slower next day for a desert reset; a morning at Red Rock Canyon or Hoover Dam is the antidote to a big night.

Common questions

When is the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix?

The F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix is held in mid-to-late November as a night race on a street circuit along the Strip; the 2026 edition is set for November 19-21. The race has a long-term contract in Las Vegas, so it returns every year. Rooms and grandstand tickets sell out months ahead and prices spike citywide that weekend, so book early or plan around it.

When is the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas?

The National Finals Rodeo (NFR) takes ten nights at the Thomas & Mack Center in early December, with the 2026 run scheduled for December 3-12. It draws a big Western crowd and fills the city with country concerts and Cowboy Christmas trade shows. Confirm exact performance times and dates when you buy tickets.

What major sports teams play in Las Vegas?

Las Vegas is home to the NFL's Raiders at Allegiant Stadium, the NHL's Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena, and the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces. Major League Baseball's Athletics are relocating to a new Strip stadium targeted to open before the 2028 season. Check the current schedule for the team and dates you want, since seasons and venues can change.

What is New Year's Eve like on the Las Vegas Strip?

It's one of the largest New Year's Eve celebrations in the country, branded 'America's Party,' drawing hundreds of thousands to the Strip. At midnight, fireworks launch from the rooftops of around ten resorts at once, now joined by a drone show, with a separate display downtown on Fremont Street. The Strip closes to traffic, so plan to walk and expect a crowded, expensive night.

When is pool party season in Las Vegas?

Dayclub and pool season runs roughly April through October, peaking from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day when the desert heat is at its strongest. Most pool clubs are 21+, charge a cover, and book up on holiday and festival weekends. Reserve daybeds or cabanas in advance during the summer.

What's the best time to come for events versus a quiet trip?

For the biggest events energy, aim for the F1 weekend in November, the NFR in early December, New Year's Eve, or EDC in mid-May, and book well ahead because the whole city gets busy and pricey. For a calmer, cheaper visit, choose a weekday outside those windows and away from major conventions. Our Best Time to Visit guide breaks down crowds and prices month by month.
